Even though the home was relatively new-built after the Oakland fire destroyed the original house in 1994-this house needed a face-lift. The 2 garages and open A-frames were not necessarily inviting from the street. Thus, when the homeowners came to us hoping to convert one of the garage spaces into a permanent addition to their house, we took the opportunity to re-design the home's facade. Taking from the house's few original details-the columns adorning the garage doors, the arches above the front porch and door, we strove to keep the overall look of the home while attempting to improve upon it. The arch over the new window adds continuity to the front of the house while the ipe/metal railing over the once A-frame roof of the garage provides the architectural detail the house had been missing.
